Blue Ridge Regional Hospital Hires Director of Nutritional Services

   Blue Ridge Regional Hospital (BRRH) has promoted Susan Stevensen to Director of Nutritional Services. Stevensen has been employed at the hospital in a part time capacity since 2005, providing both nutritional counseling for outpatients and on-call support on the weekends. In her new capacity she will oversee all patient nutrition as well as the operations of the hospital’s cafeteria and coffee shop. Stevensen has over 23 year of experience in the field of nutrition.
   “We are thrilled that Susan has accepted the director of nutritional services position,” said Jane Edwards, vice president of patient care at BRRH. “We expect this to be a smooth transition because she has significant experience, is already familiar with the needs of the hospital and has an excellent track record of success in helping our patients achieve their nutritional goals.” In fiscal year 2009 the Nutritional Services Department of the hospital prepared almost 67,500 meals and provided nutritional counseling for more than 600 patients.
   “I am excited about this new opportunity and look forward serving the nutritional needs of our community,” said Stevensen. “In the coming weeks I will be meeting with physicians, patients, and staff to assess the current services we provide and to identify opportunities for improvement.”
Stevensen received a Master’s degree in Foods, Nutrition and Food Systems Management from UNC-Greensboro and is a Licensed Dietitian. She was previously the Nutrition and WIC Director/Breastfeeding Coordinator at the Toe River Health District. A resident of Mitchell County, Stevensen enjoys herb, vegetable and flower gardening and is the mother of three grown sons.
