Volunteer Opportunity for Cancer Survivors

Are you a Cancer Survivor who would like to support others facing cancer? Seby B. Jones Cancer Center and the Cancer Resource Alliance at Watauga Medical Center introduce “Connections,” <https://www.apprhs.org/cancercenter/connections-cancer-suvivors>a peer support program whereby survivors (and their caregivers) are trained to become Guides for more newly diagnosed survivors and their families.

Criteria are that survivors completed treatment at least one year ago, and they go through a selection and brief training process. This volunteer program offers you a chance to share your wisdom and hope in a one-on-one connection with another person. Connections are by telephone and you will have professional Cancer Center employees’ support and resources along the way.

The Pizza Shop to Host Monthly Montessori School Fundraiser

Beginning September 1st, the first Wednesday of each month will be Montessori Night at the Pizza Shop and Dry County Brewing Company in Spruce Pine. Everyone is welcome! These special evenings will feature a specialty pie designed by SPMS students and staff that will raise 20% for the school. The Pizza shop will donate 10% of other sales that night to benefit Spruce Pine Montessori. School staff and friends will be on hand to assist with busing tables, dishwashing, and greeting guests. The Pizza Shop is open Wednesday through Sunday from 4 to 9pm. Call Jennifer Rambo at 828-765-4583 with questions.
