On Tuesday, May 10 at
4:45 p.m. it was warm, mid-70s when then the temp dropped
drastically & the sky blackened, within 20 minutes, lightening
flashed all around the Spruce Pine area. THEN it really
started ... with hail the size of M&Ms. It hailed really hard -- for
almost 40 minutes. These photos were taken by Byron Phillips near
Great Meadows, Inc. The downpour of hail continued another 15
minutes after these were taken; the piles amassed in excess of two
feet high.
