We believe this pretty little
kitty's name is "Mouse"--we don't know if that's because of his
"mousing" abilities or maybe he's one of those cats that likes
to "help" with the computer mouse. |

Judge Phil Guinn (right) presented a flag with the names of 9-11
victims on it to the County at the Mitchell Commissioners meeting on Monday
evening, Sept. 11th. Commissioner Phil Byrd (left). Guinn also presented a flag
to the Town of Spruce Pine at their meeting earlier that evening.

quarterly meeting on Thursday evening, September 14th in
Bakersville as part of the "kick off" for this weekend's

held Saturday and Sunday, September 16 and 17th. Picture above
shows the beginning of the booths along the Walk. At the right

Spruce Pine Kiwanis Vice President David Pike, J. Ardell Sink and
Kiwanian David Blevins. The Spruce Pine Kiwanis Club recently
enjoyed a motivating speech by Mr. J. Ardell Sink, President and
CEO of local radio stations WTOE and WKYK, during which he praised
local community leaders who have improved the quality of life in our
region. Additionally, Mr. Sink talked about changing
circumstances being a constant in our lives.

Several years ago
Jim Hite of Spruce Pine submitted a photo of Rex Robinson and his granddaughter to a photo contest sponsored by the National Hospice and
Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO). The picture was chosen as
first place winner in the amateur photographer's category. This
year NHPCO is using this picture on an ad slick that they have
produced and are sending to all hospices nationally. The ad is to
promote November as National Hospice Month. Jim Hite was also
chosen post humorously as Mitchell Chamber of Commerce Volunteer
of the Year .
