Rhododendrons in some areas have reached full bloom. This is the native purple,  hybrids are red in color.

The 8th Grade History Enrichment Class at Harris Middle School at the dedication of the state highway historical marker on May 27th. The class, led by teacher, Chris Hollifield, requested that the State Legislature recognize the Spruce Pine Mining District with this Highway marker.

Thank you to the many people who came out for the FREE night at the movie, Monday night, July 18th, sponsored by WTOE. The crowd had filled the Theatre by 6:15 pm so The Yancey Theatre kindly agreed to have another FREE showing at 9 pm. The crowd above lined up about 8:15 to get in the second showing.  Our apologies to anyone who was unable to get in at the 7 pm show.
