Mayland Community College’s Horticulture Department held a plant
sale on the Main Campus Wednesday, August 31. Proceeds from the sale
benefited victims of hurricane Katrina. The sale of butterfly
bushes, landscape conifers, and indoor houseplants helped raised
around $250 as of Thursday afternoon, which will go to help those on
the Gulf Coast through the Asheville branch of the Hands with Hearts
organization. Pictured are horticulture student Ashley Smith who is
describing the different types of plants to MCC Research Specialist
Jennifer Vance and MCC instructor Lynn McKinney.

Mitchell Chamber event that was held at the Bakersville

exciting to Nascar fans. It is available at Blue Moon Books in
Spruce Pine. |
