money for the Special Olympics of North Carolina.
Freezin’ For A Reason
If you have ever had the urge to stick for than just your toe
into the Toe River in the middle of winter, then here is your chance
by participating in the 2008 Polar Plunge. In doing so, you can
also raise money for Special Olympics of North Carolina.
This 2nd
Annual event is Saturday, March 1 at Riverside Park in Spruce Pine.
Person participating in the Polar Plunge will be jumping into the
frigid waters of the Toe River, registration will begin at 11:30
a.m. and the plunge will be will begin at 12:00 p.m.
Anyone who raises
$50 in donations and who wants to be “Freezin’ For A Reason” will
receive an event Polar Plunge t-shirt and lunch. Prizes will be
awarded for the youngest plunger, the oldest plunger, the best
costume, and most donations collected. Spectators are invited to
watch the brave participants as they take the plunge, event
t-shirts, food and beverages will be available with all proceeds
going to Special Olympics.
The Polar Plunge is
made possible by the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics
and the Mountain View Correctional Institution Law Enforcement Torch
Run Committee. Law Enforcement Torch Run is a group of police
officers and corrections personnel committed to raising funds and
awareness for Special Olympics North Carolina. Proceeds from the
Polar Plunge and other events allow support of more than 38,000
children and adults with intellectual disabilities to participate in
Special Olympics. Torch Run supports the goal of Special Olympics
of bringing all people with intellectual disabilities into the
larger society as respected and accepted individuals. For more
