2007 Spruce Pine Christmas

The Kiwanis Christmas Parade was held on Saturday November 24. There
were 60 entrants in this year’s parade. The Grand Marshall of the
parade was David Blevins.(pictured below) David is the last of the
founding members of the Spruce Pine Kiwanis Club which celebrated
its 50th anniversary this year.
This year’s parade was judged by Gina Phillips, Helen McKinney and Tim
Kearns. Four categories of floats were judged. First place in the
Professional Float Category was awarded to Capital Rock Realty with
second place going to Mitchell County Chamber of Commerce and third
place going to Spruce Pine Church of God. The Commercial Category
winner was Grassy Creek Hardware. Second and third place were
awarded to Pittman Sign & Design and Early Childhood Student
Association respectively. The Churches Category awards (First to
Third) were given to Pine Branch Baptist Church, Estatoe Church of
God and Grassy Creek Baptist Church. In the Individual Float
Category, First Place was awarded to Jerry Fisher Cancer Fund,
followed by Mitchell County Girl Scouts and Mountain View Shrine
Club. The overall winner, the Judges Choice, was Grassy Creek
Hardware.
This is the first year that The Spruce Pine Kiwanis Club has sponsored
the Christmas Parade. All proceeds from the parade will be used to
sponsor programs that benefit children in the area.
